A glimpse of life, where roles change, but family remains important.
Dear Digital Diary,
Today, on my way to an important exam, something really touching happened on the metro. There was an old father with his young daughter. The father looked tired and weak, showing his age, while his daughter was still young and small in height; at first glance, I thought she was someone who had just entered high school. However, when I looked at her face, I realized that she must be in her early 20s.
She held onto two bags and stood holding a pole as the train moved. Her father stood behind her, also holding onto same pole. When the next stop arrived, the person sitting in the seat stood up to get off. The girl noticed the empty seat and told her father to sit there. The father refused and said, "No, you sit. You are holding two bags.". The daughter urged her father to take it, showing how much she cared. At first, he said no, worried about her carrying the bags. But she persisted, and he finally sat down, a proud smile on his face. She smiled back before looking out the window lost in her thoughts.
Then, After some time. He softly called her name and said, "Give me those bags; I will put them on my lap.". She hesitated, She smiled at her father and said, "Rahne de," which means "Let it be or it's okay, don't worry". Her response filled with feelings she didn't say out loud. His eyes said what words couldn't – he still had the strength to help. Her smile showed that she understood and cared. Her words, "Rahne de," meant so much more. She showed her love, understood his wish to support, but felt her own new responsibilities.
When their stop came, which was also mine, we got off together. They walked ahead of me, and I saw something heartwarming. The father gently took both bags from his daughter, without saying a words that As long as he is here, he will always try his best not to burden his daughter's shoulders with responsibilities, because in his eyes, she will always remain his little princess. She didn't protest, letting him take both the bags, showing she understood he could help.
Within a minute, the daughter took the heavy bag from her father's hand and handed him the light and small bag. Perhaps she wantrd her father to understand that she can take care of both of them. It's not about him taking a seat; she wants to take care of him. She wants him to know that she has grown up, that she is big and responsible now. He can lean on her. She's no longer the small kid he has to look after. She wants him to trust her and not feel the need to take care of everything.
However, she still let him carry the small bag, ensuring that he saw her as someone who had grown up but not entirely. She is still his little daughter, someone who would always need him.
As I followed them for a while, our paths eventually diverged. They turned down a different lane, and I continued on my own path. This brief encounter left a lasting impact on me. It served as a reminder that relationships are intricate, changing over time while rooted in love. It was a glimpse of life where roles shift, responsibilities evolve, but the core of family remains steadfast.
Till we meet again,
Rifat
